VOF WEEK 1

VOF WEEK 1

What most excites me about Web 2.0;
One of the most exciting features with Web 2.0 is its’ nature to collate and disseminate women issues to the global. It offers interactive platform for women to deliberate on various issues affecting them.

What solutions I think Web 2.0 brings to the global women's empowerment movement
Women for along time have been weakened by stereotypes due to luck of accurate and timely information. Women empowerment has thus been affected and always on the periphery of development.

Web 2.0 therefore offers opportunity for information dissemination which will influence informed decision making both at the grassoot, national and International levels. It is a platform where dialogue is encouraged and information sourced.

Why and how it is empowering for me.
Web 2.0 is a social media which allows free flow of information across the global. It is a learning moment especially through gathering of different experiences across the continents, cultures, economic and social life.
Mainstream media ignores what are pertinent issues to the women thus suffocating the voice the women. Through this social media, women have an opportunity to express and advocate on issues they feel dear to them and not be subjects to men. Women particularly in the rural areas of my country who have been neglected for along time will have opportunity to communicate to the world through a simple means; the web 2.0. I will be a able in a touch of button share with the world what is happening to the women in my small village called Sinyereri.

I totally admire this opportunity and platform where you decide what to put on the media. Total Independence! I have for the last two years been involved in the social media through globalgiving (www.globalgiving.com/2161) where women issues have gained support both materially and otherwise.
