Goal: To provide legal support and awareness to marginalized
women in Lebanon by the end of 2024, empowering them to claim their rights and
navigate legal systems effectively.
Overview: In Lebanon, many women face barriers to
accessing justice due to a lack of legal knowledge, financial resources, and
social restrictions. This initiative focuses on empowering women by offering
free legal assistance, educational workshops, and counseling to help them
understand and claim their rights in areas such as family law, domestic
violence, and inheritance rights.
Key Activities:
- Legal
- Workshops: Conduct awareness sessions to educate women on their rights
- under Lebanese law, with a focus on issues like personal status laws,
- divorce, child custody, and property rights.
- Legal
- Counseling and Support: Provide free, one-on-one legal consultations
- to women facing legal challenges, helping them navigate the judicial
- system.
- Collaboration
- with Legal Experts: Partner with local lawyers and legal organizations
- to offer pro bono services and ensure that women have access to qualified
- legal representation.
- Empowerment
- Through Advocacy: Train women to advocate for their rights and share
- their experiences, creating a ripple effect within their communities.
Impact Measurement:
- Legal
- Support Provided: Track the number of women who receive legal
- consultations and assistance.
- Workshops
- and Awareness: Measure the number of legal education workshops
- conducted and participants attending.
- Case
- Outcomes: Track the legal cases where women have successfully claimed
- their rights, such as gaining custody or protecting their inheritance.
- Community
- Impact: Assess the long-term empowerment of women, gauging their
- ability to advocate for themselves and others.
Progress:
To date, the initiative has conducted legal workshops in Beirut and surrounding
areas, reaching most vulnerable women and their families. Additionally, women have received personalized legal
consultations, and there are cases related to domestic violence and child
custody have been successfully resolved.
Why This Initiative Stands Out:
This initiative addresses a critical gap in access to justice for women in
Lebanon, where patriarchal norms and a complex legal system often leave women
vulnerable. By providing both legal support and education, it empowers women to
take control of their legal situations, protecting their rights and promoting
gender equality in the legal sphere.
Next Steps:
The initiative will expand its outreach to rural areas in Lebanon, where access
to legal services is even more limited. The team plans to conduct more
workshops and increase the number of legal experts involved to reach the goal
of assisting more vulnerable women by the end of 2024.
