🟥🟥 Hamdok: The war threatens the survival of the Sudanese state
In his interview with Independent Arabia, he considered that Al-Burhan’s coup in October 2021 prepared the outbreak of battles.
- Saturday, June 15, 2024 AD
Former Sudanese Prime Minister and head of the leadership body of the Civil Democratic Forces Coordination (#TAQADUM), Abdullah Hamdok, denied the validity of what was said about them as civilian forces siding with either side of the war that has been going on between the army and the “#Rapid_Support” forces since mid-April 2023. They stand at the same distance from both sides, but they are not neutral or mediators, but rather biased toward everyone who has been harmed by this war.
Hamdok said in his interview with “Independent Arabia” that the coup carried out by Army Commander Abdel Fattah #Al-Burhan on October 25, 2021 against the then existing civilian government prepared for the outbreak of the current war, calling on the international community to assume its responsibilities through the mechanisms of the Security Council in the event that The collapse of the state in #Sudan and the evolution of the humanitarian crisis from refugee and famine to a threat to international peace and security.
He noted that the continuation of the armed conflict and its expansion to every new day exposes the country to existential dangers with the growth of hate speech, racism, and regionalism, which threatens the survival of the Sudanese state.
He stated that he is not interested in assuming any sovereign position at the present time or in the future, but he stressed that his communication with the two warring parties continues, and he still hopes to meet the army commander in order to preserve the homeland from loss. He explained that dealing with such critical circumstances in the history of the homelands requires the courage to possess Strong political will and courageous decision-making.
📌 An immediate disaster
Regarding his view of this war after it entered its second year, Hamdok stated, “It is unfortunate that this painful war has entered an unprecedented stage of destruction of the Sudanese people and their capabilities and an increase in the quantity and quality of violations. More dangerous than all of this is the harbinger of famine that threatens millions, and if it is not remedied, it will lead to many losses.” "Twice as many lives as the number of people who died under bullet fire."
He continued, "The continuation of the armed conflict constitutes an immediate and long-term catastrophe. Its inevitable results are lives lost, generations destroyed, resources wasted, humanity violated, and a people subjected to humiliation and indignity in their places of displacement and asylum. Therefore, it is inappropriate for those who are safe to call for the continuation of the war under any pretext." It is an unfortunate fact that with the expansion of the armed conflict with each new day, the country is exposed to existential dangers with the growth of hate speech, racism, and regionalism, which threatens the survival of the Sudanese state. Therefore, such rhetoric must be confronted and the need to raise awareness and besiege racists and seditionists must be dealt with with all firmness and seriousness.”
He added, "Sudan is entering its second year of war in which thousands of lives have been lost and tens of thousands of orphans, widows, and the bereaved, and the most horrific violations have been committed, the infrastructure destroyed, the country's capabilities destroyed, and it has caused the displacement and asylum of millions of sons and daughters of the Sudanese people to neighboring countries, and in this In this regard, we must thank our brothers in the African and Arab countries, especially the neighboring countries that received all these numbers of refugees, and we repeat our hope to the brothers in these countries to make more efforts to heal the wounds of the refugees, by facilitating procedures and providing them with all possible assistance, and the memory of the Sudanese people will be preserved. “These are honorable gestures from our brothers.”
He continued in his speech, "From this standpoint, we appeal to the regional and international community to assume its responsibilities by pressuring the conflicting parties to allow the delivery of humanitarian aid without restrictions or conditions, and not to use food and medicine as a weapon to kill more innocent civilians. We also call on the international community to seek immediately and seriously to stop the war." By returning the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces to the negotiating table, according to an integrated vision for the solution that leads to an immediate cessation of the war, the delivery of humanitarian aid, and a return to the path of transition that leads to democratic civil transformation, in order to achieve a state of equality, freedom, social justice, and dignity. We also appeal in the name of humanity to all conflicting parties. To come to their senses and make the right decision to immediately stop this holocaust.”
📌 A united front
Regarding their accusation that they represent the political arm of the Rapid Support Forces, in addition to their efforts to stop the war, the former Sudanese Prime Minister replied, “We are not aligned with any party in the war and we stand at the same distance from the two warring parties, and at the same time they are not neutral or mediators, but rather biased towards the families of the warring parties.” Civilian and military martyrs, and those who were thrown into armed conflict without having a choice and for which they sacrificed their lives, and who sided with those whose money and property were stolen and who were subjected to serious crimes and violations, and to the millions who were displaced from their areas, in addition to the hungry and poor whom the continuation of the fighting exposes to death in front of the eyes of the world, We are aligned with the National Democratic Program for the sake of a homeland that accommodates everyone.”
He said, "Since the outbreak of the situation, the efforts of the civil forces to stop the war have not stopped, and communications have continued with both sides of the conflict and regional and international forces and organizations. At the same time, we have begun to build a unified front against the war. Our slogan and motivation was for the suffering of the Sudanese people to stop, and for us to make every effort and provide... Every possible price for that, and it took time until we were able to take an important step in the journey with the expanded meeting that was held in October 2023 in Addis Ababa, which resulted in the formation of the Coordination of Civil Democratic Forces (Taqadum), and the work continued after that, and we presented invitations to the political forces. The armed struggle movements, civil and professional forces, and resistance committees joined these efforts and contributed to building this front, and we found a good response, as a number of parties that believed in its goals joined the coordination.”
He added, "In the same context, we presented invitations to both sides of the war, represented by the Commander of the Sudanese Army, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the Commander of the Rapid Support Forces, Lieutenant General Muhammad Hamdan Dagalo Hemiti
