Over
the recent years, poverty has been a cancer, especially in the marginalized
areas and that is because they have been neglected by those supposed to elevate
them. The rich keep on getting rich and the poor keep on languishing in poverty
all in the name of insufficient funds to polish themselves. Things don’t get
any better because everything has been priced and the poor get peanuts for
their vast knowledge just for survival while the rich keep on minting millions
from the poor people's vast knowledge but with digital knowledge, the poor can
get sufficient exposure to push themselves up and get exactly what they deserve
and just the peanuts.
Technology
is an equalizer and if everyone can get equipped we are one step away from
eliminating poverty. With digital literacy, anyone can put their content out
there and get the right connection, genuinely especially for the poor people
who don’t have the money to buy themselves not jobs or the right connection to
go up the ladder. They can navigate the digital tools and choose the
appropriate ones for their content, without finances to push it up it can take
a slower pace but there is hope of getting the right connection and recognition
out there and someday they will find themselves somewhere because pure smart
work will fetch a good audience because of its value and worth.
So
many have a lot to offer just that they lack the arena to thrive in. The
government, volunteers, and non-governmental should focus on even distribution
of digital literacy because it is the ignition that most people need to light
up and illuminate others. Almost everything has gone digital and the more a
country, or state is technologically behind the slower its growth becomes. The
generation we are in is not book smart but talented and only technology can help
them thrive in their specific areas. Technology is the game changer of our time
and it doesn’t take longer for people to grasp skills that will be highly
beneficial to them.
The
strategy should ensure that everyone gets equipped digitally regardless of
their social class, educational background, race, or gender. We are in an era
where all those are not a determiner and that is why the literate ones are home
while the literate keep on handling positions they don’t deserve and our states
end up getting worse. Poverty is not an enemy to an individual but to states
and the world at large and unless something is done the strain is here to stay.
Go digital and watch the world change because there is vast knowledge and power
to change the world only the holders of it keep it to themselves since they can’t
afford to put it out there. When digital tools are used appropriately there is
much to learn and teach. Digital literacy is the right connection, the hope of
the future generation especially those in poverty has deprived them of the chance
to exploit their knowledge.
