Introduction

World Pulse Powershift Inclusive Excellence (PIE) group is one of its two governing bodies which work together to increase the reach and impact of World Pulse as a social network committed to inclusivity and powershifting. The PIE Committee is made up of select World Pulse community members who have been actively engaging on World Pulse and are passionate about nurturing women’s voices and leadership through expansion and strengthening of the global sisterhood. The aim of PIE is to function as an observer, reflect, make recommendations and continuously work to enhance the quality of collective engagement with members on World Pulse, and support the community better. Five new members from diverse backgrounds and regions were invited to join World Pulse PIE Committee recently with effect from 12 April 2024.

Monthly Meeting: April

The monthly meeting of PIE group on 19^th April 2024 was conducted on Zoom, facilitated by Kirthi Jayakumar, Head of Community Engagement, supported by Martha Lawrence, Executive Affairs Administrator, and marked with a warm welcome from Jensine Larsen, Founder and CEO of World Pulse.

It was attended by all the PIE members including the newly inducted group and served to facilitate understanding among the new members about the structure of World Pulse governance viz., the Board of Directors and PIE, goals and aspirations of World Pulse as an organization against the challenges and barriers, and the procedures and processes employed by PIE to arrive at key decisions.

The meeting which saw high interaction and participation served to ease the new PIE members into their role by way of demonstration by other PIE members who referred to World Pulse By- Laws, a structured selection criteria, discussion and deliberation to finalize names of three nominees for the World Pulse Board Member- Community Chair. PIE aims to share their final list of nominees by 22^nd April 2024.

The objective behind creating three additional positions to the Board of Directors- Community Chair is to increase community representation and participation in governance matters of World Pulse. The three nominees for the board are being selected from the list of applicants who had applied for PIE earlier this year in order to give them opportunities to lead and engage in the work of World Pulse. The next PIE meeting will focus on reviewing the community guidelines.

The announcements and important updates included the upcoming Governance Training for PIE members to extend to applicants as well, facilitator’s role available with effect from late June 2024 and invitation to apply, the Board of Directors meeting with PIE scheduled for last week June, and a reminder to PIE members to add their message to the PIE Letter of Support for World Pulse, 1^st May being the deadline.

Incredible sharing

On being asked what was the most memorable moment in their time as a World Pulse community member, some said meeting other World Pulse members from different countries and continents in the world in person, for others it was being recognized and given an award which made all the difference, writing their first story which acted like a positive affirmation, finding a platform to share personal trials and traumas with assurance of safety and empathy, realizing one’s purpose and calling in life, witnessing women changemakers drive impact, and for some the most special moment was when they logged in to World Pulse for the first time to read stories of women written by women themselves.
