Zambian Chiefs to Visit ACHM to learn about Land Restoration

VICTORIA FALLS, ZIMBABWE: Four Zambian chiefs from the Barotse Royal Establishment are visiting Africa Centre for Holistic Management (ACHM) at Dimbangombe Ranch in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe to learn about the restoration of land, natural water sources and livelihood.

The visit which is scheduled to take place from 26 May to and 28 May 2011 will serve as a learning experience for the chiefs who are looking for solutions to address the current challenges related to desertification and climate change which are facing their communities in Zambia.

“Leaders are the key to the success or failure of a project. We therefore need to ensure that they fully understand and appreciate Holistic Management as a decision making framework that ensures decisions and actions taken are socially, environmentally and economically sound,” says Elias Ncube, the Training Manager for ACHM.

The visiting chiefs are coming from areas that fall under the Trans-frontier Park. Their communities were affected by floods, most of their livestock have died as a result of diseases and their land is degraded.

The chiefs will be accompanied by Albert Mate, Project Manger for Land O Lakes in Choma district in Zambia.
