Women Power Protects the Peatland

What shall we do to contribute to the economic and political empowerment of women as protectors and nurturers of the Leyte Sab-a Peatswamp Forest?

On November 13, 2023, the women leaders behind and at the forefront of Project Eden met to discuss the implementation plan. Nelda leads a farmers organization composed of 150 agrarian reform beneficiaries. Their village is located in the areas with pools with hydrophytes which are habitats of native fishes.

Lerma is the leader of a farmers organization in the elevated portion of the peatland. Her constituency increased when she recently won as the village Captain . Melanie is the chair of the youth village association. The meeting was boosted by the presence of the national coordinator of WAND women organization which awarded Project Eden as Best Banner Program.

The plan includes consciousness raising, environmental legal framework, entrepreneurial trainings, leadership and local governance. The journey of a thousand miles have started already.

Watch out for the next update.
